Leading People to the Cross

Inviting people to the Cross is one of the most loving things you can do as a Christian.  People need salvation through Jesus Christ and you can lead them to Christ yourself along with inviting them to Cross Christian Fellowship.

Make a new commitment to invite people every week.

Make a checklist of people you often encounter: grocery clerk, boss, teacher, physical therapist, friend, yard guy, nail tech, relative, hair stylist, food server, dentist, mail carrier, employee, neighbor, etc.  Have at least five people you are praying for to come to church and get saved.

Start Praying:

Pray at your normal prayer times for your list of people who need salvation.

Next time you are at church pray for the empty seat close to you and your friend(s) who you’d invite to fill it.

Pray at each meal for God to bless Cross Christian Fellowship and bring salvation to (Friend’s Name).

 Know the Basics

 The Basic Gospel

Jesus is God who lived a sinless life

Jesus died on the cross for our sins

Jesus rose again guaranteeing eternal life

1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (NKJV) Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

Rehearse Your Testimony

30 seconds about what God saved you from (What life was like, Where you were headed, What you felt like)

30 seconds about your conversation (What you thought, What you said, What you did)

30 seconds about your life after (How you have changed, What hope you have

Use the following ways to invite people to church

  1. Start a Conversation by Text, Online, or in Person

Conversation Starters:

(Pose a question, get a reply, then explore the topic)

Did you grow up going to church?

Do you go to church now? Where at? Or why not?

Have you ever thought about going again?

 More . . .

Where are you in your spiritual pilgrimage?

How are you growing personally?

Tell me about your mentor and his/her impact on your life.

What is your philosophy of life-based on?

What are you living for? What do you value most?

Has anything ever happened to you that was dramatic, personal, or spectacular enough to cause you to believe there is a God?

What do you consider to be two major turning points in your life?

What is the key to maintaining balance in your life?

When you get to heaven, what will be the first three questions you will ask God?

What is your spiritual background?

Have you ever read the Bible?

If you could know God personally, would you be interested?

 Tips:

You have probably already noticed that if you ask the question they may ask it back to you.  This will give you an opportunity to share your faith.

The key here is to begin conversations and then to listen to the heart of the one we are talking with.

Sometimes it is hard to bring up the gospel with our friends. We just need to keep asking questions that will reveal who they are and give opportunity to share Christ.

  1. Use the Invite Cards from the Invite Center at CCF

Always carry an assortment of invite cards, so you are ready to invite someone to church.

Give an invite card to someone after an engaging conversation using the Conversation Starters above.

When you grab lunch at a drive-through restaurant, give the person who takes your order an invite card.

Examples of what you could say when handing out Invite Cards

Marriage Conference Invite Card – Many marriages are struggling today and could use a little help. Our church has an encouraging free online conference.  Maybe you know a couple who could use encouragement. It is also good for couples wanting to get married.

Message for Singles Invite Card – The struggles singles have are often overlooked. Our church has an encouraging message for singles. Maybe you know someone who could use encouragement.

Parenting Conference Card - Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Every parent could use a little help.  Our church has a helpful free online conference for parents.  Maybe you know a parent who could use a bit of help.

There is Hope Invite Card – Many people are anxious, hurt, and facing a serious problem like cancer. Our church has an encouraging text devotion.  Maybe you know someone who could use encouragement.

Special Events Cards (Dinners, Christmas, Easter) Invite Cards  - Ask them what they are doing for (Event) or if they have gone to (Event).  For special events hand them an Invite Card and offer to meet them or better yet pick them up.  If it is a dinner offer to pay for them.

Generic CCF Cards - These are great to have on hand because they have a QR code to CCF LinkTree.  They will find all the helpful links from Prayer Requests, Conferences, Events, and more.  So you can direct them to the Marriage conference or any current Event at CCF.

  1. Share about your Church on Social Media (CCF’s Social Media Links)

Social media is where we share so many aspects of our lives, so why should church not be one of them? In this digital age, social media is a great way to share and connect with others. You can find content to repost or share on CCF's Instagram or Facebook pages!

Post a photo of the front and back of an invite card. Take two invite cards laying them down, one front up and one back up.  Take a picture of both together and post it. Let people know you are going to be there and invite them to join.

Use the Check-In feature on your social media account.  This shows your location by company, church, or shop.  Let them know you are enjoying your time at your church.

Post a photo of a Christian book or your Bible on your social media account. When someone comments about it, chat about your relationship with God and your wonderful church. Invite them.

Copy and paste the event info from CCF's website to invite friends to a church Easter event, music concert, conference, or sermon series.

Share Worship Lyrics From A Praise Song You Sing to get a conversation started.

Share an impactful point from the Sunday message.

Share a Meaningful Bible Verse.

Share a link to CCF’s live stream or YouTube page.

Express Gratitude for what God is doing at CCF.

Repost Promo Videos for Services And Events from CCF’s social media page (Link).

  1. Engage Your Community

When we start a conversation, care for, embrace, and reach out to our neighbors, the barista, the check-out clerk, our kids’ teachers, and our coworkers, we open the door for friendship and opportunities to spread the Gospel.

Ways to Engage:

Pray for your neighbors every day as you pass their homes on the way to and from work.

Take every opportunity to show care (mow lawns, shovel snow, rake leaves, bring cookies, write notes).

Ask questions: Resist the urge to make every conversation about you. Ask about their lives first.

Deliver a welcome gift and church invitation to new move-ins in your community.

When you start engaging the people around you, you’ll have more opportunities to share the life and stories of Jesus. Ultimately, don’t forget to share in a way that is authentic and rooted in a place of genuine love and care.
