Bible slays killer's death sentence
WorldNetDaily: Bible slays killer's death sentence
"The Colorado Supreme Court has overturned a convicted killer's death sentence because jurors brought Bibles into the jury room and wrote down and quoted passages from the Old Testament during deliberations."
So witnesses have to swear on the Bible but if jurors look to the Bible for morals then the sentence shall be overturned.
"Robert Harlan will serve life in prison without parole after being convicted and sentenced to death in 1995 for the kidnapping, murder and rape of a 25-year-old woman and the attempted murder of a woman who came to her aid."
What does it matter if they read the passages or quoted them from memory? Pretty soon Christians will be excluded from any jury selection.

For family, religion shapes politics
Boston.com / News / Nation / For family, religion shapes politics
This story is news worthy? Is it odd that people believe the Bible and tell others about it? Could they not find a Christian family in Boston? I find this whole article very telling. Look at the first paragraph.

"MASON, Ohio -- Michael and MarCee Wilkerson bow their heads and pray before every meal, even when they are surrounded by strangers at Skyline Chili. Their older daughter, Brittany, 13, listens to Christian-accented rap, hip-hop, and R&B. And Brooke, 9, is fond of wearing a T-shirt that proclaims, ''Jesus is my Homeboy.""
I guess it is ok to read the Bible but there is something wrong with you if it influences your life? And the Main Stream Media wonders why they are losing ratings faster than an anchor dropping in the Atlantic.

Here is another example of the growing temple movement in Israel.
"JERUSALEM -- Police here decided today to ban a grassroots Jewish organization from bringing 10,000 Jews to the heavily restricted Temple Mount to spark Israeli dialogue about reclaiming the holy site from its Islamic custodians, while the city police department told WorldNetDaily the Israeli government would allow a similar group of Muslims."
Also, see the article on the new Sanhedrin.
For the first time in 1,600 years, the Israeli Sanhedrin was re-established. It occurred in Tiberius, the site of the Sanhedrin's last meeting in AD 425.

The government is calling for inspections for church pot lucks? What happened to separation of church and state?
"U.S. churches are facing more and more legal hurdles to holding potlucks.
In Minnesota, potlucks are exempt from food safety inspections only if food is not prepared in the kitchen. In Wisconsin, a church that holds more than 12 public food events a year may be required to obtain a restaurant license.
Indiana inadvertently banned potlucks this year when a 2001 law took effect requiring nonprofit groups to hire certified food handlers."

CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus - Part Three
CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus
Part Three
The Roman Trial
Early in the morning the Jewish leaders brought Jesus to Pilate at the Praetorium of the Fortress of Antonia. However, they struggled to offer a charge to Pilate because their witness was dead. Judas who originally brought the accusation to the Romans hung himself. Although it was not recorded in Scripture Judas must have testified to Pilate in order to procure the Roman guard to arrest Jesus.
With no official charge Jesus was interrogated by Pilate and then Herod. Jesus was beaten and whipped in order to illicit a confession of some sort. Jesus had no crime to confess because He was sinless. The primary method of coercing confessions used was called scourging.
The instrument used in scourging was a short whip called a flagrum or flagellum. It was several small braided leather thongs in which sharp pieces of sheep bone or metal were entwined into it. Two Roman soldiers whipped the person alternating positions every four to six strokes. If the soldiers were of the disposition to really punish the subject they could literally kill the person inside of 40 lashes.
After the scourging Jesus was mocked and beaten again by the guards. A crown of thorns was pressed into His head and He was hit with rods and fists. This surely left Jesus in serious or even critical condition before the crucifixion.See Part One here. Part Two here

Blogs for Terri
I don't understand why so many people want Terri Schiavo dead. She was not suffering. She is now that they are starving her. She was not near death. She is now. Her parents show her love and want to take care of her. They are currently not allowed to see her.
There are ample funds to provide for her care. Her wishes about death have never been proven one way or another. I do not understand this culture of death we live in today. Although there is evidence that the ABC poll was skewed that showed most Americans supported taking the feeding tube out. Jesus said the love of many will grow cold in the last days. (Matt. 24:12)
Here are blogs that give more info on the effort to save her life.
Different story if Terri were . . .
If Terry Schiavo had only starred in "Superwoman", she would not be starved to death but we would make her a rallying point for more research.
If she were a killer, she'd be protected under the Supreme Court’s ban on executing the retarded.
If she were a terrorist, liberal senators would be making blistering speeches on the Senate floor condemning her torture-by-starvation.
If she were a teen-aged murderer, she'd be spared execution under the 'Cruel & Unusual' clause.
If she were Scott Peterson, she'd get an automatic appeal...and 20 more years of life.
If she were a beached dolphin, we'd demand not just her feeding, but that heroic measures be taken.
If she were in Guantanamo, the courts would rule that she have appropriate meals and medical care.
If she were on another Death Row, her parents and her priest would be allowed visitation.
If she were a innocent child in the womb . . . opps that one does not work does it?

CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus - Part Two
CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus
Part Two
The Jewish Trial
Sometime around midnight, Jesus was arrested at Gethsemane by the Roman guard and the Temple officials and was taken to Annas and then to the Jewish high priest for that year which was Caiaphas. All through the night Jesus was interrogated and was tried before Caiaphas and a contingent of Sanhedrin. In an illegal manner they proclaimed Him guilty of blasphemy.
The guards then blindfolded Jesus, spat on him, mocked Him, and struck him in the face with their fists (Lk 23:63-65). Jesus surely was fatigued by the sweating of blood, the lack of sleep and the brutal beating of the guards.
This trial was illegal in many ways. Some of the most egregious examples are that it was held at night, they were not allowed to force the defendant to testify against himself, the Sanhedrin themselves accused Him and tried to find witnesses afterward.
BTW, here is a great book on the Evidence for Jesus.

See Part One here
Cleft lip abortion done 'in good faith' Not!
The Guardian | Cleft lip abortion done 'in good faith' Jim England, the chief crown prosecutor for West Mercia, said the doctors believed, in good faith, that there was a substantial risk the child would be seriously handicapped. "In these circumstances, I decided that there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that there should be no charges against either of the doctors," he said. It is certain that the child in the womb did not consent to its own death. A cleft lip and palate can be surgically fixed. I guess an extreme makeover is only for those who can get TV ratings.
Doctors and health officials will consider whether more guidance on abortions is needed following the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service not to prosecute two doctors who authorized a late abortion on a fetus with a cleft lip and palate.
Why not choose life for those individuals and work to enhance their lives? Oh that’s right. That would take some effort or self sacrifice. The problem is not their quality of life but the quality of life for those who wish to kill them. To them these handicapped people are a inconveience.
The hadicapped lives are problematic to others so they deserve death. Death is now being dished out on the flimsy and ambiguous definition of what is handicapped. That reminds me of something. Oh yea. The Nazis.

Amendment on unintended pregnancies
Las Vegas SUN: Reid backs amendment on unintended pregnancies
“WASHINGTON -- Preventing unintended pregnancies that can otherwise result in abortions is the main idea behind a bill amendment, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said this morning in announcing his sponsorship of it.”
Sounds good so far but oops here comes the meltdown.
“Reid, the Senate minority leader, and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will introduce the amendment as debate on the budget resolution continues. The amendment calls for $100 million for a national family planning program and would require private health plans to offer the same level of coverage for contraception as for other prescription drugs.”
And here comes the convoluted thinking and manipulation.
“Clinton said she can't understand why anyone would object to preventing unintended pregnancies that have led to 1.3 million abortions.”
What is wrong with this amendment? First, let’s deal with the manipulation. Why would anyone object to preventing unintended pregnancies? This type of manipulation sets up anyone objecting to it as favoring abortion. This kind of manipulation attempts to place oneself with moral superiority and intimidate those who might oppose your view. How about saying, "We are open to anything that would prevent unitended pregnancies."
Next, let’s look at the problematic thinking in this amendment. What it is saying is we will not try to correct the bad behavior; we will try to eliminate the consequences of bad behavior. Let’s use another example to illustrate this.
We know that teens drink and drive. Let’s pass a bill that allows drinking teens to get free food so they are less likely to drive drunk. Will this bill eliminate the behavior that causes drunk driving? No. It may save a few lives but it would also send the message that it is OK for teens to drink. I would even suggest that some teens that would not otherwise drink might start drinking after the bill passed. Also, there would be teens that would drink more because they are getting free food. Some would drink expecting to consume food but in the moment would forget to eat.
It would not solve the problem. It would only add the burden of some individual’s bad behavior to the rest of society. Why should insurance companies or the tax payers pay for other people’s promiscuity?
Senators, if you really want to stop 1.3 million abortions each year then it’s simple. Overturn Roe VS Wade and make abortion illegal again.

CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus - Part One
CSI: The Physical Death of Jesus
Part One
The Emotional Factor
We are soon approaching the Easter commemoration of Jesus death and resurrection. I cannot stop thinking about what Jesus had to say about His death to those who wanted to kill Him. Jesus said in John 10:18, ““No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
Jesus was no hireling who ran at the first sign of trouble. In fact, He knew what kind of torture and death lay ahead of Him but He willingly lay down His life. Why? Why, would a man sacrifice so much? Understand He did not only suffer physically but emotionally as well.
Jesus sweating blood showed the emotional stress He was under as described by the physician Luke. Although this is a very rare phenomenon, bloody sweat (hematidrosis or hemohidrosis) may occur in highly emotional states or in persons with bleeding disorders.
I would like to propose that He suffered far more emotionally than physically. This hardly seems possible you say knowing the description of Jesus’ death related to us in the Bible and depicted somewhat in the movie “Passion of the Christ.” How could anyone not falter at the thought of that death? I put forth Jesus’ own statements to argue this point.
He asked the Father if there was any other way to avoid the cross. (Mat 26:39 NKJV) He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Why did Jesus pray for the way of the cross to pass Him if that is why He came? He said, “This command I have received from My Father.” I don’t believe He was having second thoughts. He could never be dislodged from this task even under that greatest of temptations. (Matt. 4:1-10). For this reason He came into the world.
I do not believe He was afraid of the beating and torture. He had already commanded the disciples not to be afraid of such a threat. (Mat 10:28 NKJV) “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. How could He command us not to fear martyrdom and then have that fear Himself? Jesus never broke any command. He was sinless. He could not say, “Do as I say but not as I do.”
I believe it was the emotional stress of being separated however briefly from the Father. How could Love incarnate ever want to be alienated from the Father? He had never had a lack of sweet fellowship with Him. Yet, there He was on the cross crying out when earlier His tormentors could not make Him talk. (Mat 27:46 NKJV) And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Oh, how easily we grieve the Holy Spirit and cause a breakdown in fellowship. Jesus died willingly and suffered something we should have suffered. He did so gladly so that we might have wonderful fellowship with the Father. The Good Shepherd was not afraid of the physical abuse He would suffer but He dreaded the break in fellowship with our Heavenly Father.

Genes contribute to religious inclination. Really?
New Scientist Breaking News - Genes contribute to religious inclination
This is an interesting secular view of religious behavior. Here are their findings.
“Genes may help determine how religious a person is, suggests a new study of US twins. And the effects of a religious upbringing may fade with time.
Until about 25 years ago, scientists assumed that religious behaviour was simply the product of a person's socialisation - or "nurture". But more recent studies, including those on adult twins who were raised apart, suggest genes contribute about 40% of the variability in a person's religiousness.”
Might there be other factors that could influence identical twins to stay religious other than genes? Could it be that identical twins remain closer than other twins after leaving home and therefore build up one another’s faith?
Each one of us are responsible for our own beliefs. I do not think the defense, ”It was not in my genes.” will work at the Great White Throne judgment of mankind.
Here’s another astounding discovery of the study. Religious people have similar traits.
“About a dozen studies have shown that religious people tend to share other personality traits, although it is not clear whether these arise from genetic or environmental factors. These include the ability to get along well with others and being conscientious, working hard, being punctual, and controlling one's impulses.”
Since this study was of men residing in the United States where the vast majority of religious men are Christians I think I can help with this question. Maybe, these men have similar traits because these traits are reinforced by religion. If they are Christians then they are being transformed by the Holy Spirit.
Why even propose that it is genetic when the commonality is their beliefs. I could say most football fans have a genetic orientation to watch TV on Sundays and wear team colors. It that because they are genetically disposed that way or because that is normal activities when you are a fan of a team? Although on second thought, I do wonder about some Browns fans.
We could save these people years of research and tons of money if they would only call us first.

Which Professor Loses Job?
Family.org - CitizenLink - FNIF News
Let’s say you were heading up a college. Let’s also say you received complaints about two of your professors. One said the 911 victims deserved death by the terrorists because they were like Nazis. The other assigned students to read "In His Steps" by Charles Sheldon, the book which in which the phrase "What would Jesus do?" was coined.
Which would you discipline or even fire? Which one actually got fired? Yup, that’s right the professor that assigned a book about morals and God’s love. And people wonder why our young adults are so messed up after leaving college.

David Limbaugh: Prayers for Terri
David Limbaugh has a great column today on the continuing fight to save Terri Schiavo's life. He brings up many difficult and hard to answer questions about her situation. But the most striking part of the column is the final paragraph:
I find it haunting that we live in a culture of death where the presumption seems to be against finding that a human being would want to go on living and the burden of proof is on those promoting life.
Terri Schiavo and her parents need and deserve our prayers.

Perhaps you've heard of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. This fictional thriller has captured the coveted number one sales ranking at Amazon.com, camped out for 32 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller List, and inspired a one-hour ABC News special. Along the way, it has sparked debates about the legitimacy of Western and Christian history.
This article is a good repudiation of the false claims of The Da Vinci Code.

Evangelical Leaders Swing Influence Behind Effort to Combat Global Warming
Evangelical Leaders Swing Influence Behind Effort to Combat Global Warming
By LAURIE GOODSTEIN
New York Times
A core group of influential evangelical leaders has put its considerable political power behind a cause that has barely registered on the evangelical agenda, fighting global warming.
These church leaders, scientists, writers and heads of international aid agencies argue that global warming is an urgent threat, a cause of poverty and a Christian issue because the Bible mandates stewardship of God's creation.
It is a good thing to be wise stewards of what God has allowed us to use. However, we should not fear that we can destroy the world and bring on an ice age.
God has said in (Gen 8:22 NKJV) “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.” We should not abuse the environment but know that we cannot abuse it to the point that we can alter the seasons. God’s word cannot be broken.

N.M. Marriage Must Be Between Man and Woman
N.M. Marriage Must Be Between Man and Woman registration required
The Albuquerque Journal has an article on state legislation that would affirm opposite sex marriages.
“SANTA FE— When Sen. William Sharer presented his bill to define marriage as between a man and a woman on the Senate floor Wednesday, he called it "very, very simple."
But that seemed far from the case for many New Mexico lawmakers, who debated the same-sex marriage legislation for 21/2 hours before approving it 25-12.”
In today’s moral environment nothing can be expected to be clear and simple when opened in the public arena. Conversations get mired in political correctness and inflammatory accusations. The Bill seems simple enough.
"The best situation for children is with a mother and a father who love them," said Sharer, a Farmington Republican who sponsored the Marriage Defined bill (SB 597).
Now here comes the negative reaction to the bill.
“Some opponents, often defending gay rights, said the bill amounts to hateful discrimination. The latest proposal comes on the heels of licenses for same-sex marriages being issued— and later invalidated— in Sandoval County last year.
"What we are talking about, while it sounds simple on the surface, is in reality a very pointed and negative attempt at telling one group of our citizens that there are certain rights, certain opportunities that are closed to you," said Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino, D-Albuquerque.”
First point is those who support gay marriage because we should be tolerant are the first to be intolerant to others. Here they describe those who oppose gay marriage as “hateful”. There is no hate in the language of the bill. To my knowledge no author(s) of the bill have been involved in any hate crime against gays. This is just an inflammatory attack to try and engender sympathy. It is slanderous and uncalled for.
Second, is that it is not discrimination of any bad or illegal nature. Not all discrimination is bad. Is it bad that we discriminate against males entering the women’s bathroom? Or should we allow men to loiter in the women’s bathroom? I guess we should sue the NBA because they discriminate against short people. We discriminate in good ways all the time in our society. We discriminate against child molesters who want to open up a day care facility.
There is no God given, naturally produced or societal right to every and any opportunity that we want. We all have limitations and boundaries that we are subject to. There is no hatred or evil in this.
Some of the Democrats who voted against the bill had signed on as co-sponsors or have said they oppose same-sex marriage. During the debate, they explained their changes of heart.
"I haven't always voted with the gay community, but in this I feel in my heart that this measure is absolutely wrong," said Sen. Phil Griego, D-San Jose.
Griego, who has opposed gay marriage, pointed to the loving relationship he said his gay brother, Billy, was in before he died of AIDS in 1987.
"There is no one on this floor or anywhere else that can tell me that relationship was immoral or illegal because I believe in my heart and in my soul that Jesus Christ himself blessed that union," Griego said.
Mr. Griego, I am here to tell you that gay relationship was immoral and condemned by God. Your soul is in error because Jesus Himself said, “(Mat 19:4-5 NKJV) And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ “and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?”
He could not have blessed that relationship and it is condemned in Scripture.
(1 Cor 6:9-10 NKJV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
It is not intolerant or unloving to want the best for people. The best and only ordained marriage is between and man and a woman.

Science, 'frauds' trigger a decline in atheism -
Science, 'frauds' trigger a decline in atheism - The Washington Times: World - March 04, 2005
The cracks in the foundation of evolution are growing wider. More and more pillars are falling. That means more people are leaving atheism but they are not espousing Christianity in masses. Here is a quote.
“British philosopher Anthony Flew, once as hard-nosed a humanist as any, has turned his back on atheism, saying it is impossible for evolution to account for the fact that one single cell can carry more data than all the volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Mr. Flew still does not accept the God of the Bible.”
Job well done by creationists and other scientists but we now need to give evidence in the God of the Bible. Here’s a great site.

Polygamy making a comeback
reviewjournal.com -- News: Polygamy meeting crowded
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Attorneys general of Utah and Arizona told a two-state town hall meeting they would not target polygamists solely for practicing plural marriage.
Just as many predicted the gay marriage push has reopened the door on other marriage deviations. If marriage can be entered into with any two consenting adults then why cannot it be between more than two adults? Then the next step would be to question why it has to be between two adults? On and on it goes.
People argue that they were born that way. It’s inherited or hereditary. Well no one was ever born from a gay couple. What we are all born with is a fallen nature and the only marriage that cures that is our marriage to Christ.

Political correctness down under
WorldNetDaily: B.C. not P.C. for students
In what's perceived as a case of political correctness trumping history and everyday usage, students in Australia are now seeing the calendar term B.C. – which stands for "Before Christ" – being replaced with BCE, meaning "Before Common Era."
It is interesting how there is a great push to remove all things Christian in the world. Maybe God will surprise them by removing from the world all the Christians.

BreakPoint | Moral Equivalency
BreakPoint | Moral Equivalency
This link is to Chuck Colson’s commentary on the growing divide in our churches and society at large. This divide is over moral Equivalency. Colson does a great job of explaining why Christians are so concerned over abortion but seemingly speak little about the poor.
Frankly, I find that thinking muddled, at best. We oppose abortion because we respect the fact that all humans are made in the image of God. How can you be genuinely sympathetic to the poor and the downtrodden if you don’t respect their most fundamental right? I would go so far as to say that unless you’re consistently pro-life, you’re not going to be a reliable defender of the poor.
