N.M. Marriage Must Be Between Man and Woman

N.M. Marriage Must Be Between Man and Woman registration required

The Albuquerque Journal has an article on state legislation that would affirm opposite sex marriages.

“SANTA FE— When Sen. William Sharer presented his bill to define marriage as between a man and a woman on the Senate floor Wednesday, he called it "very, very simple."
But that seemed far from the case for many New Mexico lawmakers, who debated the same-sex marriage legislation for 21/2 hours before approving it 25-12.”

In today’s moral environment nothing can be expected to be clear and simple when opened in the public arena. Conversations get mired in political correctness and inflammatory accusations. The Bill seems simple enough.

"The best situation for children is with a mother and a father who love them," said Sharer, a Farmington Republican who sponsored the Marriage Defined bill (SB 597).

Now here comes the negative reaction to the bill.

“Some opponents, often defending gay rights, said the bill amounts to hateful discrimination. The latest proposal comes on the heels of licenses for same-sex marriages being issued— and later invalidated— in Sandoval County last year.
"What we are talking about, while it sounds simple on the surface, is in reality a very pointed and negative attempt at telling one group of our citizens that there are certain rights, certain opportunities that are closed to you," said Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino, D-Albuquerque.”

First point is those who support gay marriage because we should be tolerant are the first to be intolerant to others. Here they describe those who oppose gay marriage as “hateful”. There is no hate in the language of the bill. To my knowledge no author(s) of the bill have been involved in any hate crime against gays. This is just an inflammatory attack to try and engender sympathy. It is slanderous and uncalled for.

Second, is that it is not discrimination of any bad or illegal nature. Not all discrimination is bad. Is it bad that we discriminate against males entering the women’s bathroom? Or should we allow men to loiter in the women’s bathroom? I guess we should sue the NBA because they discriminate against short people. We discriminate in good ways all the time in our society. We discriminate against child molesters who want to open up a day care facility.

There is no God given, naturally produced or societal right to every and any opportunity that we want. We all have limitations and boundaries that we are subject to. There is no hatred or evil in this.

Some of the Democrats who voted against the bill had signed on as co-sponsors or have said they oppose same-sex marriage. During the debate, they explained their changes of heart.
"I haven't always voted with the gay community, but in this I feel in my heart that this measure is absolutely wrong," said Sen. Phil Griego, D-San Jose.
Griego, who has opposed gay marriage, pointed to the loving relationship he said his gay brother, Billy, was in before he died of AIDS in 1987.
"There is no one on this floor or anywhere else that can tell me that relationship was immoral or illegal because I believe in my heart and in my soul that Jesus Christ himself blessed that union," Griego said.

Mr. Griego, I am here to tell you that gay relationship was immoral and condemned by God. Your soul is in error because Jesus Himself said, “(Mat 19:4-5 NKJV) And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ “and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?”

He could not have blessed that relationship and it is condemned in Scripture.

(1 Cor 6:9-10 NKJV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

It is not intolerant or unloving to want the best for people. The best and only ordained marriage is between and man and a woman.
